Adventures in Home Pizza Making

Jul 22, 2010 | 0 comments

Last night, I decided to make pizza….after all, I did spend a fortune on the pizza/baking stone that was made to fit my Gaggenau gourmet oven!  So the first question…make your own dough or not?  If I lived anywhere but San Francisco, I’d make my own.  But why bother when I can swing by Delfina Pizzeria and pick up their amazing pizza dough all ready to go???  So after picking up two of those from Delfina and the supplies from my local grocery store, I headed home to whip up some good pizza fare.

I do make my own sauce — a combo of organic tomato sauce and tomato paste, fresh garlic, Italian herbs, dried oregano and fresh basil, plus a pinch of sugar, salt and black pepper.
Pizza #1 – Mozzarella, Prosciutto, Balsamic grilled onions and arugula
(as you can see, being new to food blogging, I completely forgot to take a picture BEFORE we started eating it!)

Pizza #2 – Goat cheese, spicy Italian sausage, grilled red onion, fresh mushroom and a sprinkle of fresh garlic

Have to say, these were two of my better pizza combos and are making it on the “to make again” list.  Of course, a nice bottle of Chianti Classico Riserva or a good solid Syrah wouldn’t hurt along side these either!

Buon appetito!
