For those in SF, Haute Chinese food in the MIssion

Aug 7, 2010 | 0 comments

I love Chinese food….okay, I love almost all food, but Chinese is a regular staple in our house. I make it, or we get takeout from one of the many great places in the city. Eliza’s, for example, is right around the corner and has pretty solid, classic Chinese fare. But recently my husband discovered something quite new and different — gourmet Chinese food with a very modern twist. So we gave it a try last night, and WOW! Have you ever seen anything like Slow Cooked Char Siu Pork Belly on ginger scallion noodles?  Or how about Thrice Cooked Bacon, with rice cakes, bitter melon, tofu skin, leek, black bean and chili oil?  Or perhaps you’ll be as tempted as we were to try the Ma Po Tofu with ground pork and crab claws. THIS is a different kind if Chinese food, and it’s a welcome addition to the still-loved classic fare.

If you have the fortune to be in San Francisco, you must visit Mission Chinese Food and see for yourself. Even better, they change the menu every couple of weeks, and donate $0.75 per entree to the local food bank.

Bon Appetit!
